ARC In The Community

ARC is Proud to be a Strong Supporter of Local Communities

ARC places high value on community participation and encourages employees to contribute to the communities in which they live and work. We are committed to enhancing the quality of life in those communities through investments that

  • Support the volunteer efforts and charitable giving of our employees; and
  • Support the needs of the communities in which we live and work.

Each year ARC makes significant contributions in the community to notable causes. In 2007 ARC invested $1.8 million in more than 900 charitable organizations and non-profit groups. Listed below are a select handful of the community projects that ARC partners with:

Alberta Cancer Foundation (Tour of Courage)

ARC’s largest contribution in 2007 was to the Alberta Cancer Foundation’s: Tour of Courage, held June 22-24. The Tour of Courage is designed to raise awareness of cancer and to raise money for vital cancer research. The weekend involved Lessons in Leadership/Lessons in Courage session with Lance Armstrong; followed by two community bike rides with Lance on Saturday and Sunday. In addition to an ARC corporate donation of $250,000 a group of ARC employees took up the challenge to ride in the Sunday 60km community ride and raise additional funds for cancer research. With the generous help off friends, families and fellow ARCsters the group raised $32,000. To learn more about the Tour of Courage click here.

In addition to the Tour of Courage donation ARC also donated 50,150 to the Alberta Cancer Foundation as part of a five year sponsorship commitment. The Alberta Cancer Foundation raises funds for the Alberta Cancer Board to achieve the following:

  • Fund and coordinate cancer research in the province;
  • Provide evidence-based prevention and screening programs, so fewer people will get cancer;
  • Provide diagnosis, treatment and care to Albertans, through 18 cancer centres/sites province-wide.

Canadian Sport Centre Calgary

Each year ARC makes significant contributions to the Canadian Sport Centre Calgary as part of an ongoing partnership between the Sport Centre and ARC. In 2007 ARC contributed close $150,000. At the heart of the partnership is ARC's Inspiring Excellence program, which embraces the relationship between Olympic athletes and ARC's commtimment to success and culture. These areas include Northern Alberta & B.C., the Pembina area in Alberta, the Redwater area in Alberta, Central Alberta, Southeast Alberta & Southwest Saskatchewan, and Southeast Saskatchewan. ARC makes financial commitments to these communities and encourages active volunteer involvement and participation in local initiatives.

United Way of Calgary and Area

Each year ARC makes significant contributions to the United Way of Calgary and Area. The United Way provides funding and other support to programs operating within local agencies. In 2007 ARC’s combined corporate and employee contribution supporting the United Way totaled over $475,000.  Incredibly, approximately $275,000 of this amount came from employee contributions.

ARC was rewarded for its ongoing contributions in 2007 with a gold award from the United Way. In addition to this at the United Way "Spirits of Gold, Hands of Red" recognition awards, ARC was nominated for both the "Leadership Giving Award - Under 500 Employees" and the "Award of Excellence - Under 500 Employees". While others received the awards it is an honour for ARC to be nominated.
